UNFOLDING THE LANDSCAPE WITH DEBBIE MACKINNON

Join artist Debbie Mackinnon at Sea Eagle Point, a beautiful waterfront property overlooking pristine Wallis Lake for a 4-day Artist’s Retreat  (May 6 - 9, 2020)

SEA EAGLE POINT

Sea Eagle Point is an elevated promontory on Wallis Lake with lakefront and ocean views. The Point is 100 acres of largely natural bush in the Great Lakes region in northern NSW, 3 hours drive from Sydney CBD. This consists of 3 large lakes, the Myall Lakes, Smiths and Wallis Lakes, stunning beaches, national park and wonderful natural beauty.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Debbie Mackinnon is a contemporary artist based in Sydney and the Central Coast of NSW. Her paintings are an exploration of the connection between the natural and constructed worlds. Debbie trained as an illustrator and followed a profession as an art director for London publishers Dorling Kindersley and Frances Lincoln and then as an author/designer of a series of award winning children’s books. Moving to Australia 22 years ago, she was inspired by the light, texture and colour of our rugged coastlines to take up her easel and paints once more.

Debbie lectured at Billy Blue College of Design for 15 years and now paints full time. She founded ME Artspace, an artist run initiative in North Sydney, where she works and exhibits. Debbie’s work is in private collections around the world.

THE UNFOLDING LANDSCAPE | ART WORKSHOP

“The coastal landscape is a kaleidoscope of ever-changing weather, crushed sediments of sand and tides that climb and recede from headland outposts. A photograph may capture a fragment of this process, yet an artist’s observing eye is able to convey multiple moments and the magic of these natural ebbs and flows.”

Join us for a sketching and painting workshop overlooking the idyllic and secluded Wallis Lake, in the Great Lakes district of Northern NSW. Using a mix of watercolour, gouache and ink, Debbie will demonstrate a range of creative art-making techniques. Explore experimental mark making with Debbie, picking up sticks and natural materials to make 'natures brushes'. Debbie will demonstrate ideas for keeping your work loose and fresh. She will demonstrate some of her techniques and continually inspire participants to create their own innovative landscape works on paper and concertina sketchbooks. We will be painting and drawing en plein air using a limited palette for maximum effects. Debbie can help and inspire participants at all levels of experience, and can encourage returning guests to push their craft further. Partners are welcome.
